About Our Program

Our breeding program is based on integrity, with value placed on the health, temperament, and overall balance of the dog that will complete your family.

All of our dogs are AKC registered. Most of our puppies will be placed in Pet Homes with limited registration, but some exceptions may be made. Have a conversation with us if you feel like you'd like to breed one of our dogs.

Health

We want to create a dog that lives a full and healthy life with your family for many years to come. As such, we utilize many health tests in our program.

-OFA Hips and Elbows
Hips and elbows are x-rayed at 24 months old to determine proper structure of the joints, to prevent passing on defects such as hip and elbow dysplasia.

-DNA testing through Embark
A simple cheek swab is sent into a lab to identify genetic markers for specific diseases that have been known to occur in the breed.

-CAER certification yearly
Eyes are examined by a Board Certified Ophthalmologist once a year to ensure eye diseases have not been detected in the parent dog, thereby decreasing the chances of passing on these diseases to offspring.

I encourage you to research more about these tests if you are unfamiliar with the significance of their addition to our program and our ability to choose appropriate breeding dogs. Below are some sources you may find helpful:

Temperament

All of our dogs are companions first and foremost. They are able to produce terrific puppies because they themselves are terrific companions. We love training our dogs, especially to be outstanding members of our small farm. All of our breeding dogs are worked in different areas to prove their instinct and trainability. Some of our dogs will be trained in herding skills, while others may earn Canine Good Citizen Certificates or other titles. We work tirelessly on early socialization so that our dogs and our puppies will be friendly, sociable, and adaptable members of their household.

All of our puppies are evaluated in depth prior to going to their new homes. We utilize the Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test on each litter, which helps us to place puppies with the family that will be most compatible. Often times, there are multiple puppies that may be compatible with the same home, in which case it will be up to the family to choose which puppy they would like to bring home. We will never send anyone home with a puppy they don't want, and we will work with each family to make sure we can provide them with an excellent family companion.

Why Do We Title?

Breeding dogs isn't just about throwing two dogs together and seeing what happens. Dog breeding is a science; it's an art. Modern studies have shown that temperament in dogs is highly genetic and that it's not just "how they're raised." As such, the titles we get on our dogs prove that they are able to perform or adhere to a specific standard, therefore assuring that any puppies produced will be most likely to follow in their parent's pawprints.

Titles We Love to See

Canine Good Citizen
(CGC, CGCA, CGCU)

The Canine Good Citizen title is available for any dog to earn, purebred or not. This title is a test of a dog's ability to behave in social situations, and proves they have the temperament and training to be an outstanding member of society. There are three levels of the CGC title, each one more advanced than the one before it.

Farm Dog Certification
(FDC)

The Farm Dog Certification is similar to the CGC title, except it is geared more towards the farm dog lifestyle. It proves a dog can handle himself in a farm environment, around working machinery and livestock. It differs in that a dog must pass the test under two different judges in order to receive certification.

Herding Titles
(HT, HS, HI, HX, HC)

We work on herding lessons with all of our dogs for a few reasons. Firstly, Corgis were originally bred for herding, and as part of our goal to preserve the breed history, we aim to prove that our dogs retain herding instinct in their lines. Secondly, because it's fun! Our dogs love to get out and herd the sheep. There's nothing more fulfilling than watching a dog do what it was bred to do. It's a spectacular thing to see!

Fast CAT Titles
(BCAT, DCAT, FCAT)

Lure coursing is a dog sport that we got into purely for the fun of it. Fast CAT is not difficult to learn or to train for, your dog simply must be in good shape. We love to attend Fast CAT events with our dogs to meet new people, and to earn some points while we're there. Our dogs are very well socialized and love all the activities and excitement!

Therapy Dog Titles
(THDN, THD, THDA, THDX, THDD, THDS)

Therapy Dog work is extremely rewarding but also very challenging to train for. A dog has to have a certain aptitude for therapy work in order to be successful, therefore we don't pursue these titles with every single dog we own. It is a major goal to have multiple therapy dogs in our lines, and we believe it shows the amount of work and dedication we put into our dogs with their temperaments and training.
